The wait continues!

It's been a while since I've posted! There really hasn't been much going on in the adoption process. We originally thought we would be traveling in March, but then adoptions stopped indefinitely. That was hard to swallow. What do we do now? There was still a possibility things would start moving, but how long do we want to wait? We might get an appointment in July or August. We decided to stick with Ukraine and wait for things to start moving.

Wouldn't you know it! The new State Department for Adoptions will be starting appointments after September 1st. Their goal is to see all of the currently registered families by the end of the year. Right now we have to send a letter of intent that indicates we are still interested in adopting from Ukraine. After July, they will look at all of the people who are still interested and then give out appointments based on their registration numbers. We are towards the end of those registered prior to the shutdown in September of 2005. We will probably travel in November or December.

Initially, when we found out we wouldn't be traveling until after September, we were very disappointed. I had to cry because we have been waiting for so long to start a family. It just didn't seem fair. I'm feeling better now and have tried to put things into perspective and look at the situation in a positive manner. We have been remodeling our livingroom since February. It is almost finished and looks fantastic! If we do travel in November or December, airfare will be a lot cheaper than summertime (bonus since we've had to update all of our documents). The kids will be able to jump right into the holiday season. Yikes! They are going to be very overwhelmed. Bill and I were able to take a trip to Portland, Oregon this summer. One last vacation before the family vacations begin!! This time frame also works out because Bill has a very busy school schedule coming up in September and October and now he doesn't have to worry as much about traveling to Ukraine. This was frustrating for me at first because he thought we would have to postpone an appointment if it came during these months. Not exactly what I wanted to hear!!!

All in all, we're even more ready than before. We are meant to go to Ukraine and find our family. Hopefully, we will be posting more often now as we are starting to hear more news!!
